2002's good and bad...in my opinion
December 17th, 2002
hey guys! i can make lists too...here's my two cents...actually it's more like five or ten...
good records
pedro the lion - control
bionic - deliverance
the greenhornes - dual mono
mooney suzuki - electric sweat
hayden - live at convocation hall
brian jonestown massacre - bravery repitition and noise
sadies - stories often told
the sights - got what we want
jason lowenstein - at sixes and sevens
the breeders - title TK
...too many to count
best surprises
electric eel shock, pedro the lion, the sights
worst surprises
soft canyon
(i love you guys but i miss tricky woo)
best discoveries
the sonics - here are the sonics
(the greatest punk rock album ever made...period)
the asteroid no. 4 - king richard's collectibles
(i think they're called the asteroids now)
worst discoveries
sloan - pretty together
(released in 2001....i know, but i'm still kicking myself for assuming this would be a rock record)
the sonics - 1980 tapes
(after overcoming the excitement of finally finding a sonics album i realize this is a complete massacre of all their best hits done 20 years later by a lineup of the band that contains only one original member...who isn't even the singer. shit.)
good shows
the sights @ the dominion
the dictators @ the dominion
electric eel shock, the datsuns and the warlocks @ la sala rossa
andrew WK and danko jones @ barrymores
the brian jonestown massacre @ casa del popolo (seeing a guitarist quit the band mid-performance after throwing punches at the lead singer was the icing on the cake...weird and cool all at the same time!)
bionic and the bitchin' camaros @ babylon
the sadies @ the black sheep inn (good call trev...)
hayden @ southam hall
white stripes @ kool haus
the constantines and royal city @ babylon
BRMC @ barrymores
CSNY @ air canada centre
paul mccartney @ air canada centre
...the list goes on and on
bad shows
the vines @ kool haus (good record...bad show)
...that's it for *bad* shows. there's some borderline bad shows, but let's not dwell on the negative.
...that's it. so, maybe it isn't really a list but more like steve's musical diarrhea...sue me. if i can turn one person onto one of these fine bands, then that's one less person listening to jenny on a block or whatever it's called.
anyways - keep supporting the little guys and down with KOOL FM!
-steve
