Setbacks Rock Ottawa

January 13th, 2003

With a great turnout at Zaphods on Saturday The Setbacks have carved another notch in the old rock n' roll bedpost. They came out in droves to see what all the fuss was about and nobody left disapointed.

Openers, The Double Pumpers, got the ball rolling and by the time the night had ended with The Setbacks the energy had reached earth crushing proportions. Read more about the show in the Diary section.

Thanks to all that came to show their support. Just a reminder that the next show is on February 8th at Bumpers Roadhouse. Hope to see you there.

Slow News Day!?

January 9th, 2003

Be sure to swing by your local newstand and pick up both Ottawa daily papers, as The Setbacks are featured in The Citizen and The Sun (read the Sun article online here). This coming hot on the heels of the review featured in Saturday's Ottawa Citizen which described the album as "old fashioned, four-piece rock with punk-like ferocity and wry, mod wit" and also garnered The Setbacks a 3-star rating (the same rating as Whitney Houston!).

The articles come just in time to promote the show this Saturday at Zaphod's. Doors open at 8pm, the cover is $5, and The Double Pumpers will start the rock.

The Setbacks Hit The Charts

December 19th, 2002

Since sending the album to CKCU FM (93.1 on your FM dial), The Setbacks have apparently been receiving some decent airplay. A quick peek at this week's album chart would find us debuting at #7!

If you want to hear The Setbacks on the radio more often, be sure to call CKCU 93.1 FM @ (613) 520-CKCU and CHUO 89.1 FM @ (613) 562-5967 and request us! Early in the New Year you can expect campus radio across Ontario and Quebec to have the record, and ideally begin playing it on the airwaves across this fair land.

Also, be sure to check out the Ottawa XPress to find out about Chris' other musical ventures in the land of "nouveau Latin-infused broken beat treats" through his record label Cleerance. If that tickles your fancy head to the Mercury Lounge in Ottawa tonight (Thursday) to find Chris' collaborator Chameleonic spinning vinyl.

Top of the Season to Your Ears

December 5th, 2002

Pick up a copy of the Ottawa Xpress this week and flip to the holiday gift guide where you'll find our album mentioned as one of Ottawa's 2002 highlight releases by Xpress' Editor-in-Chief Fateema Sayani:

"The Setbacks - S/T: Quite possibly my new favourite band. Jumping on the bandwagon of '60s-style garage rock, locals Trevor Kealey, Steve Palmer, Paul Townsend and Chris Saracino, pump out potent rock 'n' roll numbers just like the best of them. Let the buzz begin."

Lame New Website Features

December 3rd, 2002

We've added a new section to the website here entitled W.W.S.D. (What Would the Setbacks Do?). This is our advice column. You can submit a problem you are having or a question, it can be anything, and we'll post our answers.

What Would the Setbacks Do? is an initiative of the always willing to try anything Steve. He's sure people will want to have us chime in on the issues weighing heavy on Setbacks fans everywhere.

We've also added the Dear Diary section. Here we can sound off about anything. The idea is that we'll post whatever we want about anything (music or non music related) so you should keep checking back.

Will the gambles pay off? Only time will tell.

In other news, we are booking shows for the new year and hope to make 2003 the year of The Setbacks. Check back later in the week for the first announcement.
